Packraft Swiftwater Rescue and Roundup

10-14 July 2015

The start of the second day of swiftwater rescue training. We floated various sections of the North Fork of the Flathead River between Big Creek and the confluence of the North and Middle Fork the first 3 days.

Northern section of the North Fork of the Flathead River. This is above Kintla Creek. You can see the mountains of Glacier National Park in the distance.

The water is stunningly clear (and a bit low at places).

We saw several bald eagle, ospreys, and several of these large nests.

The biggest run of the day was less of a challenge than usual due to the low water conditions. It was still a great ride.

A storm blew in a few miles from the take out.

It got dark at times as the storm blew over.

It rained about the last hour or so of the run.

After our run on Tuesday we stopped for a drink at the Northern Lights Saloon in Polebridge.

On my way home on Wednesday morning some clouds hung low between the pass north of the Apgar mountains over Big Creek.
